Welcome to the memorial page for

Athena Reynolds

July 1, 2017

Athena was a beautiful all white Akita and came to the family by way of our oldest daughter in May of 2006.  She was a 10 week old, 22lb bundle of fur.  In her prime she was 110lbs and very intimidating with a vicious deep bark.  But anyone that met her would say different.  She was a happy gentle giant who got along with all dogs and people.  She wouldn’t sleep on a doggie bed because she liked sleeping in front of the windows so she could look out.  She loved her milk bone treats and was very gentle in taking them out of your hand.  Athena was a talker.  Our youngest daughter could get her to howl on command, and she would greet you coming in the door with a long howl when she saw you.  Athena was a social eater.  Her food bowl was near the kitchen and she liked to eat while people were around.  One of her favorite things was to lay on the back patio until the squirrels/ birds would come along and she'd chase them up the large oak tree dancing around the tree on two feet.  She loved her morning walks.  As soon as I would wake up, she was right there looking at me as to be saying “come on, we need to walk before you eat breakfast.”

Athena was diagnosed in June of 2016 with a tumor that was the size of a baseball attached to her liver.  She showed no other signs of being sick.  After all the tests, ultra sounds, etc., along with her age, I made the decision not to put her through any more undue stress and to let her live her life out happy.

Athena and I went on her last walk the morning of July 1, 2017. Athena was one of the happiest and smartest dog I’ve ever owned and brought lots of joy to the Family.
